Background: Entrepreneur Diane Martin started her own business called Diamond Claims Services named after her favorite performer Neil Diamond. Martin's business services include, but are not limited to analyzing and processing workers' compensation claims, preparing required bureau forms and determining benefits due. "When a client contracts with DCS, we represent two clients…one is the company, and the second is the company's employees," said Martin. Diamond Claims Services is a business that serves as a Third Party Administrator (TPA). A TPA is an organization that processes primary services and may perform other administrative services in accordance with a service contract.

Assistance Required: Marketing plan, marketing materials reviewed and generating new business through direct mail, networking and local media.

Assistance Provided: Martin received marketing recommendations from Marketing Consultant Jane Horetsky. Horetsky thoroughly reviewed Martin's direct mail letter, business card, letterhead and brochure. Horetsky also provided expertise to Martin on a press release and took action photo of Martin to submit with article. Warren Business Consultant Joy Johnson critiqued Martin's business plan and also gave recommendations. Horetsky and Johnson both recommended the area chambers to network and gain more business. Horetsky suggested for Martin to submit her open for business release with photo to local chambers and newspapers. Johnson worked with Martin on cold calling techniques as follow up to direct mailing.

Impact/Results: Martin press release with photo ran in the Warren Times-Observer announcing the new business Diamond Claims Services. This created awareness in the community of her new venture. Martin joined the Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry, McKean County Chamber and the Elk County Chamber for networking opportunities and potential new clients. Martin has discovered new leads and continues to attend the Chamber meetings on a regular basis to increase business for Diamond Claims Services.

Consultant Horetsky was able to gain media recognition for Martin along with introducing networking ideas to the client. Horetsky also reaffirmed Martin's already strong marketing campaign that she prepared. Consultant Johnson gave Martin new insight on cold calling and support while she went through the process. The Gannon SBDC was able to give Martin assistance in both business and marketing to support her business.
